ACHIEVEMENTSThe vision of Victor Harbor Seniors On-Line founder Ross Pardey to create a computer training centre for Seniors in the Southern Fleurieu Community has been realised. VHSOL commenced classes early in the year 2000. Over 1500 students have completed courses and the need for this facility has been fully vindicated. There continues to be a significant demand for courses. The group commenced with few assets and guided by the Community Services Liaison Officer at the City of Victor Harbor Council who hosted early meetings of the group, a room was secured in Carrickalinga House . Operation commenced with four computers donated from the State Government through the former local member Dean Brown. More used computers were donated by members of the local community. Now there is a complete suite of new computers running the latest software. All personnel involved are volunteers. The instructors are supported by an enthusiastic band of helpers providing personal, even one on one assistance to students. Course fees are minimal and include course notes, disks where applicable and tea/coffee at lesson breaks. SUPPORTVHSOL is pleased to acknowledge the help and guidance provided by the City of Victor Harbor Council through its Community Services Liaison Officer, Mark Oliphant and acknowledges the corporate assistance provided by the Neighbourhood House Network. |
